Overview
A well established nationally known independent book store. Currently celebrating the 30th year in business. It is a community driver in Coral Gables. Takes leadership in the Miami International Book Fair. Book & books actively presents local, national and international authors for book tours, readings and lectures. Small cafe occupies 24 seats inside with a courtyard of 50 seats.
Challenge
The Cafe is an after thought in coming to the bookstore, more of an amenity. Serves coffee + all day long, lunch, and dinner. Live music in courtyard on weekends.
Solution
Working with the owner to understand the sensibilities of his business model beginning with modest menu changes. worked to develop professional management team and restaurant staff. Introduced regular seasonal menu changes. Currently developing a more casual menu to reflect the natural environment of the bookstore. In a modern age when many may feel book are a thing of the past we are introducing warm hospitality and creating a menu that is sustainable with local farmers to include whole grain salads, local goat cheeses, ceviche, grilled cheeses, and panini sandwiches. Working with musical features to generate ore incremental destination business. Created a 40 bottle beer list to complement small well balanced wine list.
